We are Mary and Tom Piper, recently retired and have been living in Michigan for about 30 years. A couple years ago we started talking about where we wanted to retire to when the time came. We have been very fortunate to have had the opportunity to travel and live in a variety of areas but none seemed to say to us “Move Here!”
Then one day Mary came up with the idea “Why don’t we just sell everything and live on the road?”. Well after long and careful deliberation (about 3 seconds) I said “Why not?”. So we started planning our Escape to America.
It took us a year of investigating websites, RV dealerships, magazines, etc., before we finally decided the time was right and we started the process. What we thought would take a long time actually happened much quicker than we thought, reinforcing our thought that this was “meant to be”.
We first sold my work truck and bought a Ford f-250 with a 5th wheel hitch installed. We visited several RV dealerships, finally buying a new 40′ Montana 5th wheel from A&S RV Center.
Our condo sold quickly and Mary worked overtime sorting everything we owned into ‘go or no-go’ categories, then moved the ‘go’ items into the Montana (which we fondly call “The Can”). We moved The Can to a campground, moved in, sold everything else in an estate sale, Mary sold her car, and finally, I sold Techbusters (my business) to KYDA Technologies.
So here we are living our dream of being able to travel and see this great country. Our only 2 rules: No snow and no schedules. What a change! But we love it.

Great seeing you guys!
Hi Tom And Mary. Ran across your blog bookmarked on my IPad. Glad to see the updates and that you are doing well. We’ve left a Michigan and settled in Naples, Fl. Thinking if you today! Stay Safe.
Thanks for the note, Sharon. We are in northern Minnesota again, out in the woods, away from Covid, and both very healthy. Glad you are also doing great, obviously retired. We might get to Florida this winter, don’t know yet. If so we will look you guys up. Stay safe.
